How to operate the rubber waterstop cross joint correctly during construction



The cross joint is mainly used in the connection process of rubber waterstops, and different models of waterstops use different cross joints. So how to use it correctly?
1、 Preparation for construction of rubber waterstop cross joint
Preparation work should be done before bonding the joint. Firstly, select the joint and the raw rubber according to the form of the joint, and prepare a rubber file, clean cloth, a small amount of gasoline, and a rubber waterstop heat connector. The model of the heat connector should be compatible with the rubber waterstop it is connected to. At present, rubber waterstop manufacturers all have such tools.
The heat connector uses single-phase AC power and has two heating iron plates with resistance wires on the top and bottom, with a model that has the same shape as the rubber waterstop
2、 Hot bonding construction of rubber waterstop cross joint
First, use a rubber file to roughen both ends of the rubber waterstop joint by 50mm on both sides, and clean the roughened surface. Use a clean cloth dipped in a small amount of gasoline to scrub the rubber skin clean.
Preheat the heat connector by turning it on first, and adjust the preheating time appropriately according to the temperature. Generally, preheat for 20 minutes, and control the temperature of the heating iron plate to around 50 ℃. Touch the heating plate of the heat connector with your hand to feel a bit hot, but it should not be too hot.
Place both ends of the rubber waterstop joint horizontally into the heat exchanger, leaving a 5mm gap at the joint. Place raw rubber on the top, bottom, and middle of the joint of the waterstop. Place 20mm wide and 50mm long raw rubber under and above the joint perpendicular to the joint. The length of the raw rubber at both ends of the joint should be equal, and the raw rubber should be placed at intervals. Leave a 5mm wide gap between the raw rubber. Cut the raw rubber into the same thickness, shape, and width as the waterstop, and place it in the joint seam of the waterstop to melt the raw rubber and firmly bond the waterstop.
3、 Quality inspection of rubber waterstop cross joint
The joint of the rubber waterstop must be welded tightly. If any gaps are found, they need to be re heated and bonded.
After hot bonding, a visual inspection should be conducted to ensure that there is no scorching, cracking, grooves, or oil stains, which is considered qualified.
The hot bonding method for rubber waterstops is simple and easy to master, but training should be provided before implementation and bonding joint tests should be conducted. When bonding, attention should be paid to roughening at the joint, cleaning the surface of the raw rubber, laying the raw rubber, preheating the heat connector, heating with electricity, and cooling time with power off. The hot bonding method has good bonding effect, is cost-effective, and can be operated by only two people, which is worth promoting and applying.
